Clemson is nearing a big moment in its 2026 recruiting cycle, with the Tigers chasing one last marquee piece to put a bow on what’s already looking like another strong class.

Four-star safety Seth Williams, one of the most sought-after defensive backs in the 2026 class, announced Sunday that he’ll reveal his college choice on July 31. After a winding recruitment, it’s come down to Clemson and Georgia for the Lakeside (Ga.) standout — meaning one of these two powers is about to land a difference-maker in the secondary.

Williams’ path here has been anything but straightforward. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound safety picked up a Clemson offer on an unofficial visit in March and committed almost immediately. Less than a day later, though, he backed off, decommitting to make sure he wasn’t rushing a decision this important.

That call worked out for him. His stock took off this spring, with offers pouring in from all over the country. By late May he was holding more than 50 of them, with blue-bloods from every major conference trying to force their way into the picture.

As the list grew, Williams narrowed it to the top contenders and took official visits to Clemson and Georgia, canceling planned trips to Florida and Ohio State after the Tigers and Bulldogs made their cases.

This isn’t the first date he’s put on the calendar, either. He originally eyed July 3 before pushing things back to give himself more time as the attention ramped up.

Now there’s a firm date. Clemson has made Williams one of its top priorities in the 2026 class, and the Tigers will find out on July 31 whether they can close out their biggest remaining target.
